Classes and Groups

Classes are regularly held on a donation basis at the Church. They may be taught by Church staff or members, as well as by outside teachers. There is usually a suggested minimum donation. Below you can scroll through current offerings:

WRITERS WORKSHOP

Join a community led by published writers Zachary Kopp, MFA, Jennifer Long, MFA, and Kathryn Schilling at Brooks Center Arts, an expression of the historic Brooks Center for Spirituality, 1400 Williams St. This six week writing workshop will be multi-genre and non-formalist, focusing instead on concerns like clarity of expression and emotional impact. We're looking for aspiring writers interested in exploring creativity in a supportive environment.

Each session will open with freewriting to calm the nerves and access the creative mind, then continue with exercises and dialogue about matters of craft and the writing life. Each writer will have the time and attention of the group to workshop a piece of original writing, poetry or prose, up to 12 pages.

When: Each Sunday beginning June 8 through July 20 (July 6th weekend off) from 4:30 to 6:00 PM

Where: Brooks Center Arts (inside the First Divine Science Church of Denver), 1400 Williams Street. Enter by the blue door on Williams Street nearest the parking lot. We meet upstairs in the third room on the left.

Cost:

$150 for seven-week class.

Dream Group
Two ongoing Dream Groups meet at the church every other Saturday morning and every other Thursday evening. The groups are loosely based on Jeremy Taylor's excellent book Where People Fly and Water Runs Uphill (recommended but not required). Other approaches to dream work are also appreciated and valued. At meetings people share a bit about themselves and give a brief summary of a dream. Two or three dreams from the collection are then chosen to be worked with in a non-judgmental way. Exciting and surprising revelations emerge through the process not only for the dreamer but also for other participants. Newcomers are welcome at any time. Suggested donation is $5 per meeting.
